Chaitanya AIDS Prevention Women's Association is a nonprofit organization established in 2001. 20 years ago, many Devadasi and female sex workers were facing a lot of harassment and rights violations, no proper health services, and fear of STIs and HIV/AIDS in Bagalkot District. 26 Devadasi and female sex workers came together with the support of BIRDS and collected information from the government and NGOs, and then we heard about state-level sex worker collectives - Sahabagini. It was because of Sahabagini and BIRDS that we got good inspiration, and information to form a Sangh in Bagalkot District, to strengthen the Devadasi and female sex workers in our district. In 2001, a small group registered the Sangh at Bagalkot. Now has become a mightier Sangha of 4698 members, with the objectives of prevent HIV-AIDS and STIs among sex workers, to improve the health and economic conditions of poor and marginalized sex workers, to help HIV-positive sex workers get care and support, to help women get loan facilities from the government, helping women access legal support when they face problems, to prevent violence against female sex workers by antisocial elements,and to eradicate the Devadasi system.

OUR VISION
The female sex workers in Bagalkot district live in an environment free of stigma and discrimination, lead a life of dignity, and enjoy the civil rights that they are entitled to.
OUR MISSION
To provide counseling, testing, treatment, support, and rehabilitation to people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS and also other vulnerable communities.
We implemented 2 TI projects in Bagalkot District, which has 9 taluks (Jamkhandi, Rabkavi-Banahatti, Mudhol, Bagalkot, Biligi, Hunugund, Badami, Ilkal, and Guledgudda) and 219 villages. The outreach team, consisting of peer educators and outreach workers, peer coordinators, and volunteers, has taken responsibility for the outreach. The peer coordinator then supports the team in planning, understanding the gaps, and analyzing the work through onsite support. Cluster meetings are conducted at the taluk level twice a month These meetings discuss our field plan, issues, achievements, action plan, opportunity gaps, etc. The 65 peer educators and 17 ORWs (outreach workers), along with community mobilization staff, are providing linkage services to the community through government services like widow pension, devadasi pension, and house schemes.
The most important objective of education is to raise awareness concerning STIs (sexually transmitted infections) and HIV/AIDS among key inhabitants. The different topics of education are STI, HIV/AIDS, self-hygiene, and growing community-based organizations. Volunteers, peer educators, outreach workers, and peer coordinators, are the key staff that provide this education. Education is given one-to-one, in groups, etc.
Capacity Development Training
We conducted Capacity Development Training for all project staff on 16/06/2023 and 17/06/2023.
Free Tailoring Class
We believe that providing skills to individuals to become financially independent is the most reliable approach to get rid of the scourge of poverty and its ill effects on our communities. An individual who earns, is a role model for future generations and a boon to society. Hence, free tailoring classes have been provided for women who want to be economically independent.The course is offered over a 12-week period and Chaitanya attempts to provide the best tutorship and learning experience for applicants. The course is free and all materials are provided by us.
Empowerment & Rehabilitation of Devadasi
Participated in a consultation on the prevention, protection, and rehabilitation of devadasis held at Palloti Home Goa, organized by ARZ (Anyay Rahit Zindagi) organization.
Computer Skills Training
This program is to impart employment-oriented computer training to disadvantaged girls in Bagalkot District. Bright and talented girls between the age group of 16-35 years could be enrolled in the program; these girls were either from the most disadvantaged families or were school drop-outs who could not continue with their education after class 10 due to lack of funds. Special preference was given to girls who were on the verge of losing parental care from their biological families.
World AIDS Day
We celebrate World AIDS Day where people especially from the slum areas are made to gather and take part in awareness sessions. They are given information about the sources by which HIV is transmitted, the symptoms of AIDS, and also about the various HIV detection tests performed in hospitals. Emphasis is laid on getting general health check-ups done at least once a year to see if they are positive for HIV or not (and also to know the probability of them getting other diseases). Sometimes it so happens that a person who had been infected with HIV may not develop AIDS even in the later stages of his life, so if a person is found to be HIV positive, he can be treated so that he never gets AIDS at all (though the person will remain HIV positive).It is the small change that makes the biggest impact.
